While it seems I’ve been obsessed with posting about Google and all of its wonder the past couple of weeks, I found the new updates to Google+ pages to be particularly compelling.  The latest update launches an entirely new look to the dashboard allowing for real-time hang-outs with friends (basically group Skype), photo galleries, customized widgets, news feeds and essentially what we’ve come to know as your personal timeline.

And even though Facebook and Twitter still hold a special piece my heart (figuratively speaking of course), I could see myself attempting to engage with Google+ more now that the interface lends itself to easy sharing and interactions with friends.  If anything, it simplifies the entire experience to what really matters: interactions, news and sharing.

I’m also super pumped that the “latest features” video showcases the  music of Kina Grannis, who’s cover of “Fast Car” with Boyce Avenue consistently plays itself on repeat on my computer because I consistently find it on YouTube and consistently press play. But that’s just me.

Wow, can you even imagine a world where your entire life and daily activities are monitored and influenced by Google? Oh wait that’s right, they already are.  Now imagine if you could do everything your smart phone and computer do without even needing a smart phone or a computer.

You read that correctly; the Google team is hard at work developing the next generation of technology that will “put you back in the moment” of your everyday life as they put it. Seems kind of Minority Report-ish to me, but I suppose I’m on board with how neat a pair of Google glasses could be (assuming that’s how this technology works.) Seems kind of dangerous for everyday driving though.

Google is at it again with their latest “technology”.  These videos are becoming more and more elaborate (and oddly enough, semi-realistic.) Google sure knows how to pull off an April Fool’s joke. Also, for some reason I really want to try this out. If only I knew Morse Code…

Let’s be honest: the market for social media campaigns is becoming quite oversaturated. Everywhere you look it’s “Like us on Facebook” here or “Join our community” there.  The words are getting lost on the thousands of brands that are trying to push their information in your face.

But I don’t blame them. It’s the way of the world now. If you’re not doing social and you want to connect with your customers, you aren’t doing it right. But every once in a while, something different comes along. Something so unique and interesting that you have no choice but to sit back and say, “Well done.”

That’s exactly what Leo Burnett accomplished with its underground, backwards social media campaign for the Troy Library.  The video tells the whole story.  And I have to say is: well done.

Creativity, you’ve done it again! Do you want Larry David to get a Twitter account? Bribe him. Want Morgan Freeman to narrate user-submitted animal videos? Bribe him. How about having the cast of The Wonder Years re-create a famous scene today? Bribe them!
